Navigation Course
The navigation course runs over one or two days and will give you knowledge and skills in the use of maps and compasses, GPS and navigation with natural signs.
Map & compass:
Read and understand the map, understand the use of different compass types, make bearings with a compass on a map, misalignment and correction of misalignment
GPS:
Adding and deleting waypoints, using map references to and from maps and GPS, entering/planning a route with several waypoints, settings on GPS
Natural Navigation:
Using the sun, making a sun compass/sundial, natural navigation signs in the forest, star navigation.
The course will normally contain the above topics, but may vary somewhat depending on the course duration site and the time of year. The course will take place as both theoretical and practical teaching. Practical training is the best way to learn, and we have a strong focus on practical learning in all our courses. There will be some walking in different types of terrain during the course, Waterproof boots or hiking boots are recommended.
The two-day course is the one you want to attend if you dont have much navigation skills before and wants to learn it from basic theory to practical use of navigation.
The one-day course is what you want to do if you are comfortable with a higher pace of teaching, and know some navigation from before.
The course will be held in Stange or Løten in an area which is easily accessable, about an hour from Oslo Airport Gardermoen. Adress will be given when you are signed on. If you choose to travel by train, we will pick you up at nearest train station, and bring you back there after the course.
We will provide the necessary equipment needed for completing the course. The things you will need to provide are some food, clothes, and shoes to be outdoors for 1 or 2 days in the current season. For the two-day course you will need to bring your sleeping bag too. You will also need to bring your personal things like toiletry, clothes for change and such. We have several tents to choose from that you can borrow during the class, this so you will not need to bring to much equipment.
